I have no idea.Who is your favorite professor? My favorite professor is Keith Warner. Itââ¬â¢s actually pretty funny because he isnââ¬â¢t a business school professor and we donââ¬â¢t have much in common, but has changed the trajectory of my academic path and future career in a lot of ways. Heââ¬â¢s taught me what it means to apply business thinking to social issues and is currently overseeing my thesis about multi-sided platforms. Since meeting him over a year ago, I think Iââ¬â¢ve been in his office at least once a week to get guidance on various reports, projects, and life questions. Heââ¬â¢s always pointing me to articles and ideas that I havenââ¬â¢t previously considered, whi ch pushes me to grow. Throughout everything, heââ¬â¢s encouraged me to find and maintain my own voice. What did you enjoy most about your business school? Santa Clara Universitys Leavey School of Business teachers have exponentially expanded my worldview byà facilitating invaluableà business experiences in the realà world. Whether itsà creating a marketing proposal for ourà schoolââ¬â¢s community garden outreach program, providingà operationsà recommendations for a local bakery, assisting an entrepreneur create a business plan for her Mexican food truck venture, or interning abroad at a luxury petà fashionà company in London, SCU professors have facilitated these experiences and provided me with the opportunity to genuinely connect,à cross-culturallyà communicate, deeply understand, and grow. I am so grateful for that. What is the biggest lesson you gained from studying business? Business is about the beneficiaries. People think business is all about the bo ttom line sometimes and while profit is important and necessary in every business, businesses are really just a way to serve others. No beneficiaries, no business. So, if you think about things this way, applying ethical and socially conscious practices to businesses can be extremely transformative, especially for marginalized populations that are disproportionally affected by unjust economic and environmental activities.ââ¬Å"If I didnââ¬â¢t major in business, I would be majoring in or studyingâ⬠¦If I didnââ¬â¢t major in business, I would be majoring in film. I am drawn to visual storytelling, interesting or often overlooked narratives, and the use of film to promote social justice.â⬠What has surprised you most about majoring in business? Iââ¬â¢ve met some of my best friends through the business school and connected with so many interesting and inspirational people from all around the world.Who most influenced your decision to pursue business in college? My dad taught me that business is a way to use creative thinking, connect with others, and make a positive impact on the world. As a businessman, entrepreneurial thinker, and innovator, he hasà influenced me to become the businesswoman I am today. He has instilled ethics and compassionate values into my dailyà practices and personhood.Which academic, extracurricular or personal achievement are you most proud of? I am most proud of my work this past summer with Santa Clara Universitys Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship as a Global Social Benefit Fellow. I decided to take a risk and forego a traditional internshipà experience. Instead, travelled over 10,000 miles away from my hometown to work for anà artisanal social enterprise in Rwanda called All Across Africa.à I am proud of myself for taking that risk, but I am even more proud of the high-level marketing andà consultancy reports I generated, whichà helped the company achieve a $300,000 grant from the Greater Impact F oundation by the end of summer. If you were a dean for a day, what one thing would you change about the business school? I honestly look up to our dean, Caryn Beck-Dudley, and donââ¬â¢t think I would ever be able to do the job better than her. Sheââ¬â¢s extremely down-to-earth, honest, approachable, and engaged with students. I met her last year and was inspired by her personality and magnetism.Which classmate do you most admire? I especially admire my classmates in the Leavey Scholars Program. Each is driven, talented, and involved in their own way. I really look up to each and every one of them.Who would you most want to thank for your success? My parents have pushed me to strive for more at my highest points and supported my decisions. They have been there for me when I needed them and, perhaps more impressively, let go of control when I needed to grow and do things on my own. They taught me what it means to work hard, navigate difficult situations, persevere, and create. Ev en more importantly, theyââ¬â¢ve shown me what it means to be a good person. What would your theme song be? Something by Two Door Cinema Club because it instantly lifts my mood and makes me want to dance! What are the top two items on your bucket list? Swim with sharks (and no cage) ââ¬â They offer this in Hawaii, and the thought of it really scares me, but I think I might love it when itââ¬â¢s all said and done.Eat fugu in Japan ââ¬â (fugu=pufferfish in Japanese)Favorite book: To be honest, I am not much of a book person, though if I had to pick, it would probably be The Little Prince.Favorite movie: Slumdog Millionaire! Love the cinematography, inclusive casting, and (of course) the happy fairy tale ending.Favorite vacation spot: CroatiaWhat are your hobbies? Travelling is probably my favorite thing to do. Thereââ¬â¢s just something about seeing a new place for the first time with fresh eyes and an open heart. It can change your perspective in an instant. There is s o much learning to be done from unfamiliar people, places, and cultures. Since coming to Santa Clara, Iââ¬â¢ve been able to travel to 17 countries on 4 continents, and Iââ¬â¢ve taken my film camera with me to almost all of them. I love film photography for practical reasons (no constant battery charges, memory card uploads, mass photo sorting) and for process reasons as well. Shooting film can be frustrating, yet extremely rewarding. Seeing a process through from start to finish, without the immediate gratification of seeing a shot, takes dedication, skill, and good luck! I also like going to museums (any type), practicing yoga, trying out new recipes, and watching New York Times Op-Docs.What made Haley such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2018?ââ¬Å"Haley has a vision for business in society, and addressing the needs of society. She brings keen insight and terrific analytical skills to bear on business problems, but she also asks the bigger questions about how busines ses can help people. She has seemingly natural skills at business model analysis, financial model planning, and listening to what the customer needs. She used these skills and more in her Global Social Benefit Fellowshipà serving as a consultant for All Across Africa, a women-serving social enterprise in Rwanda.â⬠Keith Douglass Warner OFM Senior Director of Education and Action Research Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship Santa Clara University Page 1 of 11

Essay about Communication Climates, Responses, and Dynamics
Communication Climates, Responses, and Dynamics COM 330 This paper will discuss small teams on a reality show called ââ¬Å"There goes the Neighborhoodâ⬠. This show is about a neighborhood that allows a brick wall to gate them in and they must learn to work together, not only as a family, but as neighbors too. In the beginning of the game, everything is taken away from them. For example, all of the luxuries such as appliances, televisions, snacks, video games, and childrenââ¬â¢s toys were all removed. There was no need for their cars since there was a huge wall around the neighborhood. These teams not only had to learn to become a team, but it would also teach them to appreciate everything that they have. The game encourages team work,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Often, cohesion is viewed from an affective perspective; as interpersonal attraction among members or to the group. However, cohesion can also be envisioned as attraction to a collectivity as opposed to an attraction to the individuals who make up that grouping. (Ratzbu rg, n.d.) It is important that every single member never work against each other but strive to work with each other toward their shared goal(s). Any negative force that threatens the teams success redirects itself into something positive as long as team members share the same purpose. Cohesiveness is a process whereby a sense of we-ness emerges to transcend individual differences and motives (Kinicki Kreitner, 2004, p. 15). Some of the teenagers in the families did not approve of how their parents were acting on decision making. Since these people were actually neighbors in real life, these teenagers were friends with the other teens in the game. This caused problems because some of the parents were being immature and this caused the teens to rebel against their own family. In certain challenges the teens would not try as hard as they should because they disapproved of what their parents were planning. Finally, one of the mothers talked to them and explained that it was only a game and more than anything they needed to work together as a family first. The teen realized that this was more important and strived to help his team out.Show MoreRelatedThe Importance of the Focus Group Method1122 Words à |à 5 PagesFocus groups are a form of group interview that make use of the communication between research participants in order to produce data. Operations Management of Subway Samples â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Operations Management of Subway. Answer: Application and implications of four Vs on Subway As a matter of specification, this segment looks after the four typical marketing components, which the personnel of Subway follow for execution of the marketing activities. These components are: Volume The presence of 44413 outlets in 109 countries reflects the voluminous operations of Subway. The production of 5300 sandwiches to the customers is an indication towards the volume of breads, lettuce and the other ingredients for the preparation of the sandwiches, salads and wraps (Subway.com, 2017). In case of Subway, the volume dimension is high. This is because the brand provides employment to 400,000 candidates. Voluminous operations of Subway are reflected from serving 2.6 billion sandwiches a year. To be exact, 16 acres of lettuce is inserted in the sandwiches. The growth in the sales revenue can be correlated with the dimension of high volume. In 2015, the sales revenue was $17 billion in comparison to 11.3billion US $. The international sales revenue was recorded as $5.8 billion. Dedication, commitment and perseverance of the employees took the sales revenue to $5.8 billion. This increased the scope and arena of business as more outlets were opened. This introduction brought t he opportunity of foreign market penetration for Subway. Variety For production of the sandwiches, salads and wraps, variety of breads, sauce and cheese are used. The breads have wide ranging size and shapes. Along with the breads, bacons are also of many types. The toppings of sauce and cheese are presented in various ways for luring the customers. High variety of breads helps the chefs to prepare different types and kinds of sandwiches for catering to the specific tastes and preferences of the customers. In salads, the chefs use various kinds of lettuce, which aligns with the needs, demands and requirements of the customers. The salad toppings are inserted according to the instructions of the customers. Choice is given to the customers regarding the salad toppings in the food items. This variation is also applicable in the cheese toppings. Here, the employees adhere to a policy, which warns the chefs regarding not to use the sliced or shredded cheese as a local topping. Instead, crumpled sized cheese can be used. Toppings are also wide-ranged- s olid and liquid. There are specifications, which all the restaurants need to follow. Variation in demand The customers of Subway are varied in their demands regarding the food orders. The children have a taste for spicy, chocolaty and creamy filling foods. The demands of the adults depend on their moods (Subway.com, 2017). Sometimes, they crave for chocolaty, crme filled items, and sometimes they want spicy items for energizing themselves. Variation is also there in the orders given by the customers. For example, customers ordering for sandwiches have tastes and preferences for gourmet bread, cheese toppings, and lettuce as salads. These orders changes according to the demands of the customers. Tackling with these wide-ranging demands of the customers is challenging for the personnel. Herein lays the appropriateness of the portion control packet, which serves the purpose of serving the customers their specified orders. In view of all these aspects, it can be said that the dimensions of variation in demand are high. Visibility Visibility relates to the transparency in the marketing operations. Not using adulterated materials in the preparation of the food items makes the fresh items visible to the customers. This aspect is mostly applicable in case of packaging processes. This is because of printing the ingredients on the packets. Visibility can also be connoted as the accessibility and contribution of the customers in the marketing operations of Subway. Social media connects the brand with the customers. The concept of customer generated content reflects the accessibility provided to the customers in terms of increasing the sales revenue of the operations. The buyers are not involved in the back office operations, which reflect a low visibility. Moreover, low visibility implies that the brand can receive quality production from the employees, who possess adequate skills, knowledge and expertise. This helps in keeping the company expenses low, which is assistance in terms of introducing lucrative and benef icial offers for the customers. Countering this, providing training to the employees regarding keeping the expenses low and utilizing the resources judiciously, proves beneficial in terms of achieving the identified and the specified objectives. Application of performance objectives to Subway The personnel of Subway envision the achievement of maximum profit margin through the increase of sales revenue. The employees, after their recruitment are exposed to certain guidelines for making effective and judicious utilization of the organizational resources (Subway.com, 2017). Here, the focus is mainly on the finance. The managers make keen observation for the orders and purchases made by the customers. Utilization of paperwork helps the personnel to make the financial calculations in an efficient and effective manner. Making use of effective management techniques like evaluation, helps the managers of Subway to regulate the operations both of the internal and the external environment. Application of strategic management has enabled Subway to achieve the identified and the specified objective, being one of the worlds most valuable brands (Subway.com, 2017). Exposure of strategic vision seems fruitful in terms of the yielding positive results in marketing. As a matter of specification, the performance objectives in case of Subway can be quality, dependability, speed, flexibility and cost. Quality The personnel need to pay extra attention to the quality of breads, lettuce, cheese and the toppings, which needs to be put in the sandwiches and the other food items. This is in terms of regulating the health conditions of the customers. Dependability The personnel are dependent on the suppliers and distributors for getting quality materials for preparing the food items. Contracts, deals and trades connect the customers with the shareholders. Adopting illegal means attaches negative connotations to this dependability. Speed The personnel are expected to deliver the orders to the customers in less time. There is a rule that keeping the customers waiting for more than 2.5 minutes can compel the staffs to lose their jobs. However, preparation time of the foods is considered. Flexibility Subway personnel need to be flexible enough for achieving large-scale customer satisfaction. For this, constructing effective and judicious plans would be a wise step in terms of coming up with something innovative for luring the customers. Cost Adopting latest and innovative technologies have upgraded the standard and quality of the food items in Subway. This, in turn, has increased the sales revenue and added maximum value to the profit margin. As per the data of 2016, Subway succeeded in increasing the sales revenue from 3.7% to 5.8 million dollars. However, there is still lot more distance to cover, especially in the financial parameter. Indulging in partnership with the trade union members would be effective in terms of setting and regulating the prices of the food items. This would enable the middle class customers to exercise their purchasing decisions in terms of catering to their specific tastes and preferences. Relation of different organizations with Subway Subway experiments with organizations like GrubHub Inc, Postmates Inc and DoorDash Inc among others. However, Subway has still not indulged in partnership with any of these organizations. Partnership with Apple Pay, Starbucks corps mobile apps has proved fruitful for Subway in terms of expanding the scope and arena of the business. Wearing gloves while preparing the food is an indication of hygiene maintenance for looking after the health issues of the customers. Negative aspects Franchise is one of the biggest challenges, which Subway is facing. This has strained the finance of the company, increasing the difficulties in terms of stabilizing the prices of the manufactured food items. Moreover, it has generated conflicts between the brands and the shareholders (Subway.com, 2017). Implication of the current management practices in Subway Evaluation and supervision of the operations helps the managers to estimate the progress. Along with this, evaluation has assisted the managers in terms of making plans regarding adopting the changes in response to the identified drawbacks. One of these changes is the adoption of social media for expanding the scope and arena of the business. Within this, mobile ordering is an immediate solution for satisfying the hunger cravings of the customers (Subway.com, 2017). Technological advancement has upgraded the standard and quality of the food items. This is an answer to the era of 2016, when Subway encountered 1.3% decline in the sales revenue. Most importantly, training has enhanced the preconceived knowledge of the employees regarding the efficient and effective ways of serving the customers and gaining large-scale customer satisfaction (Subway.com, 2017). The intensity of the demands in Subway is very high. This is because of the various types of materials available to the personnel for the preparation of the food items. Herein lays the appropriateness of the portion control packet, which helps the personnel to regulate the topping packets. The customers are provided with the choice, which is regulated by the managers. Here also there are restrictions as to the limit till which they can place the orders. As a matter of specification, the customers could make upto 8 variable orders for the salad toppings. This type of management is an example of the micro-level management. On the other hand, adopting latest and innovative technologies for the preparation of quality, healthy and fresh food items is an example of the macro-level management (Bromiley Rau, 2016). Process map of the operations in Subway The above figure represents the process of marketing for Subway. Here, planning is a crucial component in terms of achieving positive outcomes. Prior to planning, knowing the needs of the customers helps the personnel to produce food items accordingly. Countering this, reviewing the financial condition is important in terms of introducing lucrative schemes, offers and discounts for luring the customers towards the brand (Spring et al., 2017). Advertising helps the personnel of Subway to expand the scope and arena of the business, progressing towards the foreign market penetration. Strategic vision is needed here, as it helps in systematizing the business activities for reaching to the benchmark level of performance. References Bromiley, P., Rau, D. (2016). Socoilogy Essay Example
Socoilogy Essay The harder you work, the luckier you become (Closer 13) is a philosophy that has exemplified the American dream for decades, also this is something one of the fast food industries founding father Carl Coacher lived by. However, looking at Carols personal success from sociological stand point it leads many to believe that other significant factors also lent a helping hand in creating Carols success. Carl was born and raised in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and was the son of a sharecropper. In the era of the Great Depression the future wasnt very bright for Karl in Ohio. The first significant break Karl got was a Job offer in Anaheim, California. Fortunately for Carl there was a large German immigrant population settled in the area where Carols Uncle Ben lived. This allowed him to work in peace in a location settled by the UK Klux Klan. With that being said simply due to Carols ethnicity he was giving an advantage. Moreover, despite Carols humble beginnings as a farmhand and an elementary school dropout he was determined to climb higher up the social ladder. Another factor that aided him in this process was the time period in which he lived. Now that automobiles were available to the public at a reasonable price Americans felt a new sense of independence. This was key to Carols success he decided to capitalize on Americas love of the automobile and the laziness that came with it. He was also able to obtain a $311 dollar loan from Bank of America using his own automobile as lateral making the automobile useful to him in more ways than one. Besides great timing and wonderful opportunity, another factor which played a huge role in Carols success was the prime location of California. California was one of America fast growing and promising states, between 1920 and 1940 the population of Southern California nearly tripled. Franz Liszt Bio & Analysis essays
Franz Liszt Bio & Analysis essays An Abb, honorary canon of Albano, a sincere mystic and at the same time one of historys most publicized lovers, incredible showman, hypnotic virtuoso, astonishing amalgam of magician, zealot and philanthropist, Liszt is easily the most colorful personality in the history of music (Lieberson 256.) From his dazzling beginning in the musical circles of Vienna as a child prodigy of eleven years old, Ferenc (Franz) Liszt would establish himself as the leading piano virtuoso and one of the foremost progressive forces in music of his day. Franz Liszt was born in Raiding, Hungary (now part of Austria) about thirty miles from Vienna, Austria (Longyear 105.) His Father was steward to the family of Esterhazy and a good amateur musician; consequently, he was also Liszts first piano teacher. Young Liszts extraordinary abilities were recognized without delay and he was soon taken to Vienna to study piano under Czerny and composition under Salieri (the former teacher of Schubert, an acquaintance of Liszts.) His phenomenal aptitude for the piano at the age of eleven was greeted with a kiss from Beethoven, and praised endlessly by the musical circles of the day. In 1823, Liszt went to Paris, where he studied music theory and composition (Politoske 1.) The French immediately recognized him as a brilliant performer with an almost uncanny ability to improvise on the keyboard. He had once wanted to become a priest, but inspired by the success of Niccolo Paganini, he then worked to become as much a master of the piano as Paganin i was of the violin. Soon he became in touch and at home with Parisian culture, fully immersing himself in the society, literature, and art with friends such as writers Hugo, Lamartine, George Sand, Sainte-Beuve and painters like Delacroix. He also met the Countess Marie d'Agoult, the writer known as Daniel Stern, who was his mistress from 1835 until 1844 and the mother of his daught...

Personal statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Personal Statement Example Due to my keen interest in the world of supplies, demands, distribution, revenue, profit and customer satisfaction, the field I would like to choose for my major is economics. After sensitive calculations and critical working, I took initiative to start off with my own ââ¬Å"mini businessâ⬠. I perceived it as a business that would not only be beneficial for students but would also allow me to earn a good deal of experience in the practical world alongside the profit. By assigning target goals and dividing the entire process into the stages of ââ¬Ëplanââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëpurchaseââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ësellââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëgenerate revenueââ¬â¢, I was able to keep the business simple yet effective. The plan included listing the items that were in demand and researching the availability of whole-sale vendors who could provide the required products. These items were then sold at a reasonable profit, which was later utilized for further betterment of the business. In the ââ¬Ëreve nue generationââ¬â¢ stage of my business venture, I calculated the amount of time, energy and fuel consumption while commuting to the wholesale market and finally completing the purchase. With this data, I calculated a reasonable profit that was to be earned from the business. ... uced a new well-equipped market within the campus, while I ended the business and decided to focus on the final months of studying for my high school. From what I have learnt through my experience, I believe that I can benefit the community in better ways by further understanding the concepts of economics, which will possibly provide a solution to the worldââ¬â¢s derailing economies. By studying subject matters such as meeting demands and supplies, converting loss into profits, benefiting human kind and sustaining global economies, I will be able to contribute to the field of economics and the community. Prompt 2 After discussions with my father that lasted for hours, I was forced to admit the fact that my twenty years of life have not really been much of a success. Before I had joined Community College, the grades that I had obtained were not up to the mark. Due to my fatherââ¬â¢s motivation and support, I had always wanted to set an example, not only for my dad but also for m y children in future. It cannot be ignored that I had gained exceptional business experience at a very young age but I realized that despite starting off as an entrepreneur and managing it well, there were many concepts I still had to grasp. I believe that the best possible way to be introduced to these concepts would be to undertake a university major in economics. At the beginning of my high-school years, I was introduced to a poem by Robert Frost, titled ââ¬Å"And miles to go before I sleepâ⬠. This poem inspired a great sense of motivation within me and continually makes me believe that there is always a lot more that life has to offer. Since I was determined in what I believed, I took an oath to bring about a change. As I resumed my studies in the Community College, I worked hard day and night. My

English 2 Lesson 5 Journals Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
English 2 Lesson 5 Journals - Essay Example Caravaggio often received commissions from the Church and thus much of his art revolves around Biblical scenes and other religious artistry. One of Caravaggioââ¬â¢s most important works is the Supper at Emmaus. This work is clearly religious as it depicts the recognition of Christ by his disciples. It seems to be based upon the message in the Gospel of Mark when Christ was said to have appeared in another form; in the painting, Christ wears a disguise. Caravaggio used his typical light/dark contrast to add to the incognito effect attempted by Christ in the books. The whole scene appears to be about how Christ can enter into our daily lives, and thus is an important message for many Christians. Journal Entry 3 I have chosen to write my poem about the effects of gossip and how it might hurt others. A big brick wall, covered in roses, with two pairs of friends on either side, talking A dark, shadowy stairwell down which the listener is walking with a candle A big bustling school scen ario with huge open grounds and typical school noises A school toilet, with stalls through which gossip can be overheard A dining room table, covered in food waiting to be eaten, candlelit Journal Entry 4 Each Morn a thousand Roses brings, you say: Yes, but where leaves the Rose of Yesterday? And this first summer month that brings the Rose Shall take Jamshyd and Kaikobad away. You told me that every morning brings a thousand roses But where are you putting the roses from yesterday? Well, this June will bring roses too, And it will take Jamshyd and Kaikobad away. Journal Entry 5 This poem is going to have a light-hearted tone because it is not intended to be too serious, as this may come across as preachy or intolerant. To keep this tone, I have chosen to use a simple sonnet style for the wisdom poem, as this type of poetry is often used for romantic themes and thus is not associated with the more serious literary styles. Journal Entry 6 Student: Laotzu, I really need your advice wi th something. I am really struggling with a homework assignment for school. The deadline seems so close and yet I do not really understand what the teacher wants from me. Laotzu: Be calm, young student. Please tell me more about this assignment and why you canââ¬â¢t do it. Student: The assignment is a History essay about the American Civil War. I know a lot about the topic, but I really struggle with writing essays and I donââ¬â¢t really know where to begin. Laotzu: War is an important topic; we must learn from our past mistakes. It is important that we avoid war, as it goes against the Dao. Why do you feel unable to do this work? Student: I have been putting it off for too long, and now I am too worried to start or to ask for help. Laotzu: One of the central principles of my philosophy is Wu wei; knowing when to act and when not to act. In this case, I believe you should know it is time to act. Try to find the essence of the essay, and write what you feel. Student: But what i f my writing is not good? Laotzu: The first action is the most difficult. Begin to write, and the spirit of the Universe will flow from your fingers. Student: Ok, Laotzu. Thanks for your advice. Laotzu: Knowledge is important. Please feel free to come again. That objective is to exploit the suspected misuse of the funds to cause public discomfiture to Khurshid.

The Use of Magic in Medieval Literature Essay -- Literature Essays Lit
The Use of Magic in Medieval Literature The concept of magic and magical creatures has been around for a long time, however, in the time period ranging from Beowulf to Malory's Arthur, there has been an evolution in attitudes and the consequent treatment of magic in medieval literature. The discussion of magic involves not only the disparity between Christian and pagan tradition but also of gender roles, most notably in the Arthurian mythos. Beowulf, Marie De France's Bisclavret and Lanval, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Sit Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur involve the concept of magic and magical creatures and consequently, illustrate the treatment of magic of their time. In Beowulf, the idea of magic is one that is feared and unworldly. It is definitely not an aspect of normal, "courtly" life. Grendel and his mother are both magical beings, and it is quite obvious that they are clearly not the protagonists of the story. Magic was a symbol of power, whether of class or of strength, and Grendel and his mother fit into the latter category. Grendel also poses a challenge to the power of the ruling class. His only target is Hrothgar's great hall - "It was easy then to meet with a man shifting himself to a safer distance to bed in the bothies, for who could be blind to the evidence of his eyes, the obviousness of the hall-watcher's hate?" - apparently, the rest of the land is quite safe from "demons" such as Grendel(Beowulf 35). Grendel's immunity against weapons and armour emphasizes the challenge further. In pitting Beowulf against Grendel, the poem also suggests that the only way to destroy magic is with itself. It can be assumed that Beowulf possesses some sort of supernatural strength, although he not blatantly... ...e of medieval society and its writings. In addition, an examination of magic in medieval times covers not only the treatment of religion, but also of gender issues and courtly ideals. Despite this, however, it cannot be denied that magic in medieval literature contributes to its unique and distinctive nature. Works Cited "Beowulf" The Norton Anthology of English Literature. ed. Medicare Assignment What is Medicare? What governmental agency administers it? Medicare is a national social insurance program; it is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease known as a permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant. Individual state links are posted at the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Servicesââ¬â¢ website. This site also provides a detailed listing of what services are and are not covered under Medicaid. State eligibility sometimes differ. Federal law requires states to cover certain mandatory eligibility groups, but allows them to provide coverage to other population groups. Some states do, other states donââ¬â¢t. This means that state eligibility laws will differ from state to state. Check with your state and learn the eligibility requirements. This is especially important if the person who is applying for Medicare will be entering a skilled nursing facility. Inquire as to the average turnaround time for reviewing an application. It generally takes 45 days for the state to process an application that does not involve a disability. It can take up to 90 days to process an application associated with a disability. Be sure to follow up on the status of your application if you donââ¬â¢t receive a response within a reasonable time after that. Know that you can combine Medicaid and Medicare coverage if you meet certain eligibility requirements. Renew your eligibility once a year What types of coverage does Medicare provide? What does it not provide? Medicare covers services (like lab tests, surgeries, and doctor visits) and supplies (like wheelchairs and walkers) considered medically necessary to treat a disease or condition. If youââ¬â¢re in a Medicare Advantage Plan or other Medicare plan, you may have different rules, but your plan must give you at least the same coverage as Original Medicare. Some services may only be covered in certain settings or for patients with certain conditions. Part A: Hospital care, Skilled nursing facility care, Nursing home care, Hospice, Home health services Part B covers 2 types of services Medically necessary services: Services or supplies that are needed to diagnose or treat your medical condition and that meet accepted standards of medical practice. Preventive services: Health care to prevent illness (like the flu) or detect it at an early stage, when treatment is most likely to work best. You pay nothing for most preventive services if you get the services from a health care provider who accepts assignment. Part B covers things like: 1) clinical research 2) ambulance services 3) durable medicalà equipment (DME) 4) mental health 5) inpatient 6) outpatient 7) partial hospitalization 8) Getting a second opinion before surgery 9) Limited outpatient prescription drugs What are the ââ¬Å"optionsâ⬠under Medicare (ie. can you pick your own doctor, can you pick your own drug plan? Etc.) In most cases, people can choose their own doctors, other health care provider, hospital, or other facility thatââ¬â¢s enrolled in Medicare and is accepting new Medicare patients. However for drug, most prescriptions arenââ¬â¢t covered in Original Medicare but people are given the choice to join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. Each Medicare Prescription Drug Plan has its own list of covered drugs, many medicare drug plans place drugs into different tiers on their formularies. Drugs in each tier have a different cost. A drug in a lower tier will generally cost less than a drug in a higher tier. Do you have to pay for Medicare benefits? Yes, generally people have to pay for Medicare benefits. Part A usually cost $441 each month if a person is not eligible for premium free. For part B, a person pays a premium each month for Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance). Most people will pay the standard premium amount. However, their modified adjusted gross income as reported on your IRS tax return from 2 years ago is above a certain amount, they may an Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA). IRMAA is an extra charge added to premium. Part B for $ 147 and Premium B for; If your yearly income in 2011 was You pay (in 2013) File individual tax return File joint tax return $85,000 or less $170,000 or less $104.90 above $85,000 up to $107,000 above $170,000 up to $214,000 $146.90 above $107,000 up to $160,000 above $214,000 up to $320,000 $209.80 above $160,000 up to $214,000 above $320,000 up to $428,000 $272.70 above $214,000 above $428,000 $335.70 Are there co-pays associated with Medicare? Yes. In traditional Medicare ( Part A and B) you pay 20% of the Medicare- approved amounts for most Part B services. In Part A, after meeting the deductible you pay nothing more for up to 60 days in the hospital in any one benefit period, but additional days may require daily copays. If you grandpa had severe dementia and needed 24 hour care, but your family wanted to keep him out of the nursing home, would his care be reimbursed through Medicare? Medicare has the choice to not reimburse the cost because it is not under the beneficiaries. Is Medicare working or is it just a broken socialized medicine program that needs to be redone? Why? I think that Medicare should be redone, it has too many processes to it, and it doesnââ¬â¢t make any sense if itââ¬â¢s for society who are poor and old, why do people still need to fork out so much of money per month to keep their Medicare benefits? Also, the paper work needed to apply for Medicare is tedious and not exactly friendly for somebody who is trying to apply for it. How easy was this information to find? How would a person with less education then you navigate this system? The Medicare website was rather easy to find, however the information was not the easiest thing to grasp especially when they have so many terms and conditions and different tiers to it. A person with less education will definitely have difficult time trying to navigate through the system and to get the right paper work done to apply.

The Laws Of Sex Trafficking - 1286 Words
There are many other types of trafficking other than the stereotypical 17-year-old girl. The most prevalent is labor trafficking. Traffickers exploit punishment through manipulation of laws. Even now, traffickers are causing psychological and sometimes physical damage on their victims. Many companies are attempting to rid of trafficking within their plants, there are people working for cheaper rates, which, result in higher acceptance rates. In 2001, when Germany legalized prostitution, illegal traffic decreased by 10%. (Reisenwitz, Cathy) Therefore, the laws of sex trafficking should be fortified because traffickers manipulate laws and legalization of prosecution dropped illegal trafficking rates, we should focus on helping all victims rather than focusing on sex trafficking. Granted that traffickers avoid punishment, they are able to manipulate their victims. A troubled childââ¬â¢s parent did not know what was happening, but her child was introverted and less social. Overview of the Research Methodology This research methodology is an action plan because the researcher is trying to create a improvement plan in her own school. This will be working with at-risk and special education students in the math classroom and ways to better serve those students using differentiated instruction and technology to help lessen the educational gaps those students have and to raise MAP scores. Proposed Research Design The proposed research plan will include two classrooms of at-risk and special education students math classes. Incorporating technology and researched based instruction to help increase MAP scores and student understanding. The instruments used will be pre- and post tests, MAP scores for the year, informal daily bell ringer and teacher responses. This unit will take one quarter to complete and will help in looking at further instruction in math for these students in years to come. Because of the small sampling and that it is based in one school an action methodology is the best fit. Sampling Techniques The sampling pool includes two sections of Math 1.5, consisting of 18 students in one class and 13 in the other. The Bible - 1869 Words
And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab. Two things we must understand here. God told Balaam to go only if the elders came to him. Balaam disobeyed this command and pursued them. There is more to this scenario, however. When the Lord told Balaam to go with the men if they came to him in verse 20, the word ââ¬Å"withâ⬠in the Hebrew text is erte and means nearness, by, or among. However, in verse 21, Balaam ââ¬Å"saddled his ass, and went ââ¬Å"withâ⬠the princes of Moab.â⬠The word ââ¬Å"withâ⬠here in Hebrew is ernt, and is anâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦At this point, one might wonder who the real donkey was. The ass clearly saw the angel and wanted to avoid its wrath. Balaam, on the other hand, rushed blindly towards judgment, while angrily whipping the poor ass for her stubbornness. And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaams anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. Balaamââ¬â¢s ass had more spiritual discernment than her master. Having seen the angel once again, she collapsed to the saving of the prophetââ¬â¢s life. And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times? And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay. Two animals spoke in scripture: the serpent and Balaamââ¬â¢s donkey. The first used its voice to seduce Eve, but the second used her voice to save its greed-driven master from divine destruction. Expatriate Management Essay Example For Students
Expatriate Management Essay Many companies deal with expatriate executives/personnel in a variety of ways. In determining an expatriate there is no right or wrong way. The difference is determined by how the company is trying to meet their goals. The selection process for an expatriate varies significantly from one company to another. When a company has entered the international/global market, it is vital for that company to decide upon which method to use for determining their expatriate executive/personnel. The two methods available are outsourcing and promoting internally. This paper will focus upon promoting internally. Both outsourcing and promoting internally have their advantages and disadvantages. When trying to decide between outsourcing or promoting internally the company should consider these questions:1.Have you looked at the cost of administering this function in house versus outsourcing? (Cook, 1999, p.177)2.Have you done some preliminary recruiting to see if experienced HR staff with expatriate experience are available? What are the going salaries for these professionals? (Cook, 1999, p.177)3.Will performing the daily administrative details of the expatriate function consume an inordinate amount of time, even if you have experienced staff? (Cook, 1999, p.177)4.Do fluctuations in the companys expatriate population make it difficult to maintain appropriate levels of HR staff assigned to get employees overseas, maintain them, and bring them home? (Cook, 1999, p.177)5.Have you identified the specific expatriate activities you would want to outsource and which ones you might effectively mainta in in-house? (Cook, 1999, p.177)6.Have you discussed the pros and cons of outsourcing these services with other HR professionals or COs who are doing it now in order to get a better understanding of the issues? (Cook, 1999, p.177)7.Do you know all of the compensation and benefits issues you face in each country where you plan to do business? (Cook, 1999, p.177)Cook (1999, p.177) said, Large established companiesthat have multiple global operations; Companies that are just starting their international operations that may not have experienced staff to effectively handle international HR situations; and Companies whose business needs fluctuate as overseas projects are initiated and completed.; If your company has decided to outsource then thereare many sites on the web that are specifically geared towards outsourcing. Some of these locations are:http://www.iorworld.comhttp://www.eems.comhttp://www.expat.cahttp://escapeartist.comMany companies and organizations will decide to internally promote and produce an expatriate executive rather than outsourcing the process. When a company or corporation does decide to promote internally many factors must be considered. The company will have to decide where to build the new facility, what products to produce, what resources to use, where to get the resources, what governmental policies must the facility adhere too, the size of the facility, and so on. The HR department will be responsible for developing the policies and procedures necessary for operating/running the plant. One of the first steps the HR department will be to develop the specific knowledge, skills, and attributes (KSA) and training necessary for success as an expatriate executive. However, Training will not be discussed but the process was mentioned because it is a vital ingredient to the success of the expatriate executive. Before selecting the individual, the company needs to take into consideration the family of the individual. The company will have to pr epare not only the employee or executive but also their family. Once an individual has been selected, the expatriate will need to be rewarded some way. This will be discussed later. When deciding on the executive/employee to promote toan expatriate position, several KSA are desired. According to Desatnick and Bennet (1977, p.141-148) the areas that need to be considered for an expatriate executive in order of importance are adaptability/flexibility, high tolerance for frustration and patience, empathy/understanding, high intellectual capacity, ability to learn language, problem-solving ability, opportunity mindedness, results orientated, decision making ability, communication skills, integrity, priorities skills, and professionalism. An HR department will have to decide upon which areas are more important and applicable to their organizations in order to promote the right individual. The individual will have to be flexible and patient due to the cultural difference between the countries. What is standard in one nation might not be in the other. What could be considered a standard or norm here may be considered as rudeness or affectionate in another. A thorough u nderstanding of the new culture is vital to the success of the expatriate in that country. When an individual begins to understand the culture, then they must be able to make decisions and solve problems within a timely matter. The person will need to have a high level of intelligence, perception, and imagination in order to succeed. The expatriate will have to be able to communicate efficiently with all forms of communications bases (writing, speaking, training, motivating, etc) and know when and what to prioritize. The expatriate should be aware that they are an extended image of the company/organization and should be professional and have integrity beyond reproach. .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 , .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .postImageUrl , .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 , .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:hover , .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:visited , .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:active { border:0!important; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:active , .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1 .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue5690b2668791fb665a507ad30db2fa1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: What I Wouldn't Give EssayIn determining who will be an expatriate, the company will need to look at the family of the expatriate. We not only have to deal with the employees ability to adapt to another culture, but most now add another variable: the spouse and family. It has been documented by countless researchers that spouses are a critically important aspect of a successful expatriate experience.; (Schell Solomon, 1997, p. 153) The family of the expatriate plays a vital role in how successful the expatriate will be. Once an expatriate has been determined, then the company must provide rewards or benefits to this individual. These perks or benefits should include some if not all of the following: Salary, Annual incentives, Long-term incentives, Benefits, and Perquisites.; (Cook, 1999, p.139) These areas could be broken down in to several areas. Some of these areas are known as allowances. Some of the most common allowances are Housing, Education, Relocation, Cost-of-living, and Exchange rate fluctuations as determined by Bennet Desatnick (1977, p.211-218). In conclusion once a company has selected the process of determining an expatriate (outsourcing or internally) then they must decide on the HR policies and procedures in selecting an individual, and then providing that individual with compensation for being an expatriate. These processes and procedures developed by the HR department need to be specific. Most companies realize the importance of an expatriate executive in their foreign facilities. The foreign facility will only be as effective and efficient as the expatriate executive. The selection of the companys expatriate executive is vitally important to the success of the company in a foreign country.
